After returning from Ellis Island, we decided to visit the World Trade Center. On the way, we were all hot, tired and hungry, so we stopped for some pizza. The guy at the counter was a complete jerk, but the pizza was really good. Perfect New York style!
Tower two is quite impressive.
I'm sure many of you have already seen the memorial. I was amazed at the size! See how small the visitors are?
We found several flowers and other mementos near the names of some of the victims.
It was all very moving. Naturally, we all remember where we were and what we were doing on 9/11. Such a terrible day. I am glad we had the opportunity to share the memorial with the kids. Even though they were too young to remember, we need to be sure it is never forgotten.
We were a bit pressed for time, so we did not take the elevator to the top of the tower, or even visit the gift shop. I am told the trip up is worth it.
We learned later, from my cousins in New Jerssey, that there is another 9/11 memorial, in New Jersey. It was a gift from Russia. Wish we had been able to visit it. Maybe next time.
P.S. It is VERY disrespectful to stand in front of the memorial, grinning like a fool, while taking two dozen selfies. Really. It is just disgusting. Have a little respect people.
